Business Historic Gas Plant

Spanning 86 acres of publicly-owned land nestled in the middle of St. Pete, Florida, with one of the most vibrant and walkable downtowns in the nation, the Historic Gas Plant District represents an opportunity unlike any other in the Southeast. Development will provide jobs, entertainment, mixed-income housing, and family-oriented places that promote equitable economic development for the surrounding community.
The City of St. Petersburg intends to honor the current commitment to repair Tropicana Field in accordance with the current use agreement. As for the future of baseball in our city – if in the coming months a new owner emerges, the City will consider a partnership to keep baseball in St. Pete.
In the meantime, St. Pete will not put progress on hold. The City will move forward on the development of the Historic Gas Plant District, honoring the 40-year-old promise of inclusive economic development on this historic land. The City will consider a phased approach, accounting for its obligations under the current use agreement. After decades of waiting, this land will again bear the fruit of housing, jobs, and beneficial community development.
