Community Spotlight: Daniel James Scott

Daniel James Scott, Executive Director, Tampa Bay Technology Forum

In addition to Tampa Bay being home to major tech corporations, organizations like the Tampa Bay Technology Forum (TBTF) and its leadership further solidify our region’s role as a growing tech hub.

TBTF is a member-driven catalyst for the growth of the local technology sector helping to promote corporate expansion, entrepreneurship, and development of a skilled tech talent pool. It empowers Florida’s largest and fastest-growing tech hub through community engagement, workforce development and marketing the world-class technologies built and supported in Tampa Bay.

TBTF Executive Director, Daniel James Scott feels strongly that Tampa Bay, specifically St. Petersburg, is an optimal home for growing tech businesses.

“A few reasons why: (1) The region’s only coding school, The Iron Yard, is here, (2) a number of our region’s Meetups convene regularly within the city, and (3) St. Pete is one of the most desirable places to live in the country,” Scott said.

Scott is a serial entrepreneur and former University of South Florida (USF) business school teacher who quickly rose to regional prominence in the Tampa Bay area, inspiring business startup and an entrepreneurial community. Scott has called St. Petersburg home for nearly his entire life.

“Three things I love about St. Pete: (1) Downtown is not only walkable, but beautiful to walk around in; (2) the city is expansive with so many fun districts to explore. Downtown is really just the beginning. (3) The number of headquarters and jobs there are within the city,” Scott said.

Where does Scott see St. Pete 10 years from now?

“As a major tech hub, of course! To see our region move to the forefront of the technology movement is pretty incredible,” Scott said.

In addition to his community-focused day-to-day role, Scott is a big believer in giving back. He serves on the boards of the Lions Eye Institute for Transplant Research and RNG Tampa Bay. Scott serves on a variety of advisory boards in St. Petersburg, including the Innovation Labs at the Dali Museum, The Iron Yard and the Pinellas Education Foundation.

Scott is a proud husband and father of twins.
