Four months from handshake to headquarters: Oncore’s quick move to St. Pete

Economic growth meets digital equity

Four months. That’s how long it took Oncore CEO Adam Kupsta to decide St. Petersburg was the right home for his cloud technology firm’s new U.S. headquarters.

St. Pete’s financial focus

Oncore, a technology advisor that helps compliance-heavy industries like financial services and manufacturing navigate cloud adoption, had been exploring expansion options from its Atlanta base. The firm was looking for a growing tech hub with strong financial sector connections—a combination that led Kupsta to the Tampa Bay Tech poweredUP event in May 2025.

What started as a casual conversation with the St. Pete EDC team at the event quickly accelerated into site visits and community introductions. “The speed of everything surprised me,” Kupsta said. “Within weeks, I was meeting local leaders and touring downtown office spaces.”

The financial services focus proved key. With most of Oncore’s clients in that vertical, Tampa Bay’s established financial ecosystem, anchored by firms like Raymond James, offered immediate networking opportunities that cities like Dallas or Orlando couldn’t match.

But it was a summer Investor-only event at the Irons Club that sealed the decision. “I met more potential partners and clients in one evening than I typically would in months of cold outreach elsewhere,” Kupsta recalled.

Strategic start, bigger plans

Oncore’s initial St. Petersburg footprint will be modest but strategic.  The company is relocating three employees over the next six months and plans to add 7-10 new hires over the following year, establishing its U.S. headquarters downtown at 360 Central Avenue in the Truist building.

The EDC also connected Kupsta with USF St. Petersburg’s fintech program, opening potential recruiting pipelines for both internships and recent graduates. “The talent infrastructure here means we can grow without the recruitment challenges we’d face in other markets,” he said.

“The St. Pete EDC team didn’t just provide information—they facilitated connections that helped us understand how we’d fit into the existing business ecosystem.”
