Foot Locker (NYSE: FL) is the newest Fortune 500 company headquartered in St. Petersburg. Mary Dillon, Foot Locker’s president & CEO announced the company would be relocating its global headquarters from New York to St. Pete by late 2025. The company already had about 150 employees in the region. Dillon noted that St. Pete is
“a great place for us to continue to grow and do business and continue to attract top talent,”
citing “better opportunities” for collaboration across the business and financial benefit over time.
Foot Locker will be the third Fortune 500 headquarters based in St. Petersburg, and the fourth in Pinellas County, joining St. Petersburg’s Raymond James and Jabil, and Largo’s TD Synnex. The Tampa Bay metro area is second only to Miami in Fortune 500 headquarters in Florida.
Financial services powerhouse Raymond James (NYSE: RJF) was founded in St. Pete in 1962, and has grown to 20,000 employees worldwide. Tash Elwyn, president, private client group at “RayJay” said,
“When you look at the relatively low cost of doing business here, the community and cultural benefits of living in St. Pete and the Tampa Bay area, and access to a tremendous talent pool, that all leads this location to be a very resilient home base for our company.”
Global manufacturing firm Jabil (NYSE: JBL) relocated its headquarters to St. Petersburg in 1982 and in 2021 built a new HQ in the city along with a new R&D innovation center. At the opening, then CEO Mark Mondello said,
“This is just the beginning of a campus that is not only going to be state of the art, but is going to attract our most precious and competitive advantage: people that want to work here, in a company that’s growing.”
Headquartered in nearby Clearwater, TD SYNNEX (NYSE: SNX) is a leading IT global distributor and solutions aggregator.
Companies with a different way of doing business are drawn to the collaborative and open atmosphere of the business community here—St. Pete is a headquarters destination for innovative companies of all sizes.
When Dynasty Financial Partners was considering a relocation from New York, the wealth management platform for registered investment advisory firms looked at cities like Charlotte, Nashville, Lexington and West Palm Beach to reduce their operating costs and increase their employee quality of life.
CEO Shirl Penney told Forbes that Dynasty developed a comparison checklist of items like the cost of living, commercial and residential real estate, travel—both local and air, corporate and personal taxes, talent availability, local college support and their ability to move key people to the new location. They then worked with local representatives and companies that had relocated to the potential destinations to learn more about the communities they were considering.
Penney said,
“Everyone in St. Pete we met—from the mayor’s office to local business owners—shared their pride in helping to build a growing financial center of nearly 300,000 inhabitants—a fact that has made recruitment far easier than we’d at first assumed.”
He added,
“St. Pete is a wonderful, magical place to live and work. It is a city, yet has a small-town feel. Everyone knows everyone. It is a warm and welcoming environment. We were bear-hugged by the community when we first visited, and that support has been there since we moved in 2019. We have hired more than 100 people since we came here, and are very involved in the community from both a company and employee perspective. St. Pete was the perfect choice for our company and we could not be happier.“
Digital Twin Marine was looking for youth and easy access as it looked to relocate, and found that in the Maritime Defense & Technology Hub in the St. Pete Innovation District in 2022. Nicky Bruger, co-founder and CEO of the applied technology company that creates customized 3D as-built digital twins of large ships, said,
“We love how young the city is, and it’s also great to be near Tampa Bay. The proximity to Tampa International Airport is excellent, and because we travel often for business, being close to an international airport was important.”
Since relocating its headquarters from Edmonton, Canada to St. Pete, data analytics platform Spontivly has secured investment from Mark Cuban’s group, HootSuite’s founder, and Tampa Bay Ventures, among others.
They have partnered with the Tampa Bay Rowdies and fellow relocated companies Dynasty Financial Partners and Bedrock, have participated in HubSpot’s Million Dollar Pitch, and have developed multiple new APIs. Co-founders Marissa Huggins and Anthony Nagendraraj were drawn to St. Pete in 2021 by its support for the entrepreneurial community. Huggins said,
“Incentivization is about support, which takes shape in so many ways. It’s more than just money. Support such as access and introductions to people is a very important incentive and the St. Pete and Tampa Bay community has such overwhelmingly great resources—they know exactly what startups need.”

The St. Pete EDC is located at 111 2nd Ave NE, Ste. 610, St. Petersburg, FL 33701. Parking is available in the Plaza LAZ lot located next to the building; use GPS for 221 1st St N, St. Petersburg, FL 33701, which is near the entrance located on 1st Street N. between 2nd and 3rd Avenues.
Parking is $5/hour for the first 3 hours and $20 thereafter; it is a card payment facility only (no cash). Visitor parking is on the 1st and 4th floors; please note there is no handicapped access from the parking garage above the first floor.
There is also surrounding street parking; pay with ParkMobile or in the Sundial Garage located 2 blocks away.
