St. Pete has the home field advantage with the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team and Rowdies soccer franchise located right in downtown, while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tampa Bay Lightning play right across the bay.

When we root for the home team, it’s the Tampa Bay Rays, our MLB club that lives right here in downtown St. Pete. Gameday brings an influx of enthusiasm and blue shirts to the streets of St. Pete as folks make their way to and from the ballpark. A major player in our local economy and culture, the Rays are an integral part of life here.
Thanks to our frost-free weather, baseball season starts early in St. Pete. Florida is quite the destination for Spring Training, and the Tampa Bay area hosts major teams like the New York Yankees, who play at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, as well as the Philadelphia Phillies, the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Tampa Bay Rowdies, who play home games on their downtown waterfront pitch at Al Lang Stadium, are St. Pete’s hometown soccer team. Part of the USL Championship league, the Rowdies bring the world’s most popular sport right to the heart of our city.
We recently welcomed Tampa Bay’s first professional women’s sports team in the Tampa Bay Sun FC. Built for the future of women’s soccer, the USL Super League has committed to U.S. Soccer’s Division One standards, reflecting its collective vision to be a global leader on and off the field while providing more opportunities for more women in more communities.
Even with our mild winters, we’ve managed to build a championship ice hockey team right here in Florida. The Tampa Bay Lightning, or “the Bolts,” electrify downtown Tampa from puck drop to the final buzzer.
Football fans have a winning NFL team just across the bay in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs draw an audience from across the Tampa Bay area into the heart of downtown on game day.
If fandom isn’t enough, St. Pete offers tons of leagues and teams that cater to sports fans and athletes at every level. From competitive soccer leagues to casual pickleball matches, there’s an opportunity to be part of a team here.

The St. Pete EDC is located at 111 2nd Ave NE, Ste. 610, St. Petersburg, FL 33701. Parking is available in the Plaza LAZ lot located next to the building; use GPS for 221 1st St N, St. Petersburg, FL 33701, which is near the entrance located on 1st Street N. between 2nd and 3rd Avenues.
Parking is $5/hour for the first 3 hours and $20 thereafter; it is a card payment facility only (no cash). Visitor parking is on the 1st and 4th floors; please note there is no handicapped access from the parking garage above the first floor.
There is also surrounding street parking; pay with ParkMobile or in the Sundial Garage located 2 blocks away.
