USF Ranks 3rd in Nation and Top 30 in World in Sustainability Report

According to Times Higher Education’s annual “Impact Ratings,” The University of South Florida is one of the top universities influencing global sustainability, poverty, and more. The university was ranked No. 3 in the nation and No. 30 in the world when it comes to meeting the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. These goals mainly emphasize creating a more “sustainable, peaceful and prosperous future,” and USF is doing just that with all the eco-driven research they have done over the years. Some of the projects that collected the high ranking include:

• Efforts to end poverty or help those that are impoverished through its Guaranteed Admissions Pathway Program. This assures admission to Tampa Bay high school students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and roughly 40% of its students are eligible for federal financial aid.

• Protecting and enhancing marine ecosystems through deploying a research cruise to study the effects of the Manatee County Piney Point spill that recently came about.

• Reduce inequalities through its yearlong, $500,000 initiative that will fund close to two dozen research projects. The university was also able to gain help with funding from the Tampa Bay Lightning, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Rays, and Tampa Bay Rowdies.

This report also ranked schools within each 17 of the United Nations’ individual goals. USF ranked within the top 20 of each section and came out as No. 1 in the U.S for its ongoing efforts to eliminate poverty. USF’s research has recently hit new levels in recent years since all three campuses are coming together and setting the same expectations across the board. University of South Florida received more than 500$ million in outside funding for research over all three campuses. All the outside funding is extremely helpful for the university and the surrounding region in the long run. Recruiting world-class researchers to help the university with research will only help the school recruit more high-achieving students who could help the Tampa Bay-St. Petersburg region immensely for the future of their sustainability.

We are proud that The University of South Florida continues to make advances in research and is providing high quality talent to the Tampa Bay region. And we are proud to have USF Support the Economic Development Corporation.
